Renters: Time to Bite the Bullet and Buy
This is San Francisco, Really
This prime piece of real estate (or not) is actually a shot of 16th Avenue and Strawberry Hill in San Francisco — now in Golden Gate Park — taken about 109 years ago.
Amazing.
Just Google Map that address now and see the difference. [Hat tip: BldgBlog.]

Cute Home For Sale: $30,000
It’s one of the most expensive property markets in the nation, but, unbelievably, there is a home for sale right now in the Bay Area priced at $29,500.
Admittedly it’s tiny — but very cute (above).
Read about it on On The Block.
Mad About Maybeck
It’s Maybeck season in the Bay Area.
Firstly, one of his beautiful homes is for sale in San Francisco. The 1916 Erlanger House at 270 Castenada is a 3/3.5 with cathedral ceilings in the great room (above), set on a 9,000 sq ft forested lot. It was on the market last year for $3,890,000 and [...]
Gone: SF Cottage is Demolished
Oh well, we tried. A knight in shining armor was not forthcoming.
See full story of historic cottage’s sad demise here and here.
Savior Needed for Historic Cottage
Just a few days ago I was writing about a 1860s cottage in Bernal Heights in San Francisco (pictured below) that was slated for demolition before new owners, and Feldman Architecture, stepped in and transformed it into a thing of beauty.
Could not the same enchanting solution be found, I ask myself, for another historic [...]
Tuesday Snippets
Here’s your chance to become a “proud” landlord/lady with the newly listed 1920s St Croix Apartments (above) at 1142 McKinley Avenue, near Park Boulevard in Oakland. Period details and sound-looking finishes. Price: $1,659,000.
One of the two green condo homes designed by Maurice Levitch on Berkeley’s Seventh Street has had its $936,000 price reduced to $895,000. [...]
Lovely Living in Bernal Heights
At the risk of becoming a design blog, and a San Francisco one at that, I couldn’t not share with you this beautifully remodeled home in Bernal Heights.
The original 1860s cottage was slated for demolition before Feldman Architecture was brought in to refurbish it. Soak up all the photos at Remodelista.
Now, I wonder when it [...]
Pirouettes in Noe Valley
This is one of the loveliest homes I’ve seen in a while — and part of its appeal is definitely its size. At a diminutive 840 sq ft, it feels both livable and in tune with the zeitgeist.
Given that it’s in San Francisco, its $695,000 price tag lends it additional charm.
The cottage, at 141 Ames [...]
A $21m Price Cut: Time to Make Your Move
Remember the master bedroom suite that is bigger than my entire house? Well the penthouse apartment it belongs to, in the St Regis building in San Francisco (above), has just chopped its asking price from $70 million to “just” $49 million.
Worth checking out the comments on the Socket Site post that alerted me to this [...]
