It could look like the contemporary apartment on the Oakland-Emeryville border pictured above, which his priced at $379,000, a tad under the current median price paid for a Bay Area home which last month was $387,000.

Tuesday Snippets: Offers, Plaudits and Cuts

The Bernard Maybeck designed home at 2980 Linden Street in Berkeley has been taken off the market and word on the street is that it had as many as eight offers — and not one of them is from me. It listed for $1,095,000.

Multiple Bids: Remember Those? They’re Back

Expressions barely uttered in the past year or so are making a comeback. Remember “multiple bids”? In conversations with real-estate brokers this past week, these two words have actually been used.
One agent, who works primarily in north Berkeley, reported on a $625,000 Albany home attracting several offers and closing 124% over of its asking price. [...]

Charles Moore Home in Orinda Comes with a Story

Reader David Bobrow, who is a fan (”I love your blog. Practically lurve it” he writes — thanks David, we appreciate the sentiment), sent us an interesting tip on a home in Orinda. (In fact he sent it some time ago but a glitch in our email system prevented us from finding it until now.)

Suddenly this Summer: Signs of Life

So, just like that, change is in the air.
A Realtor reports that seven homes in her Berkeley patch each drew an average of five offers each in the past month. Another agent has just closed over asking on a $640K house near Oakland’s Piedmont Avenue after entertaining multiple offers.

So this Recovery Thing? True or False?

There’s been a lot of talk recently about the housing market turning the corner, as well as the economy more generally showing signs of recovery.
Most of the latest data shows home prices beginning to stabilize and even rise in the Bay Area. And anecdotal evidence in Berkeley, at least, certainly suggests some improvement, with some [...]

Weighty Price Chops in East Bay

A handful of homes have just had significant price reductions which merit attention.
The mid-century home at 535 Cragmont Avenue in Berkeley (pictured above) has had $200,000 taken off its $1,250,000 asking price to $1,050,000 — a 16% cut which takes it very close to the $1 million threshold. [Hat-tip: reader Debtpocalypse.]

Solar Tips For Free in Berkeley

It’s President Obama’s 100th day, and Home Girl’s 200th post, so it seems appropriate that we are providing good news today — at least for Berkeley homeowners.
The city has found funds to be able to offer all its residents free solar energy consulting services.
This from the Daily Californian:
The SmartSolar program, a partnership between the city [...]

All Rules Are Off in the Bay Area

There are some wild listings to be had out there at the moment.
Read my post today on On The Block to find out about the “shell” of a house that’s for sale in the Berkeley/Oakland hills (above).

Mad About Maybeck

It’s Maybeck season in the Bay Area.
Firstly, one of his beautiful homes is for sale in San Francisco. The 1916 Erlanger House at 270 Castenada is a 3/3.5 with cathedral ceilings in the great room (above), set on a 9,000 sq ft forested lot. It was on the market last year for $3,890,000 and [...]
