Berkeley Home Wins Top Prize

A Berkeley hills home has been named “Home of the Year” by Metropolitan Magazine.

The 3,100 sq ft contemporary, home to designer Karman Ng and his wife and daughter, is described as speaking to “mid-century sensibilities, cutting-edge trends, artistic expression and most of all the needs of [a] young family”.

It looks pretty sumptuous. (And quite unlike any family home I have ever seen.)

Now we just have to know where it is. My guess? It looks very like the Claremont hills.

(Update: Above is a picture clue.  Reader Optionarm has weighed in already with this suggestion: Norfolk Rd, between Buckingham and Westmoorland. Seems rather precise.) Anyone else have ideas?

I saw it on Google street view: http://maps.google.com/maps?num=100&hl=en&client=safari&q=6948+norfolk+road,+berkeley+ca&ie=UTF8&split=0&gl=us&ei=aMCsSZeZIJK2sAPNh63GBA&ll=37.859064,-122.225065&spn=0.002753,0.005472&z=18&iwloc=addr&layer=c&cbll=37.859063,-122.225065&panoid=5sY3vzOtQ1RLd6WIWVJz4g&cbp=12,121.03518384506965,,0,17.882352941176478

Now it’s for sale at $1.85 million. As with 48 Gravatt, the idea is that you get written up in a design magazine, talk endlessly about how you built this unique house for your specific needs and then put it on the market. Makes sense I guess. Someone pays a premium for the design awards and you can always build another.
