Having been surrounded by stately Georgians and grand Victorians in a decidedly urban setting for the past few weeks, it is perhaps not surprising that my choice for most interesting new listing in Berkeley is quintessentially Californian and borderline countryside in character.
The 5/3 home at 634 Wildcat Canyon, which listed yesterday, appeals to me on several levels.
I love the floor-to-ceiling windows framing the fabulously leafy views in the living room. The home’s setting in Tilden Park certainly can’t be faulted if you love the idea of being immersed in nature. (Its lousy 25/100 Walk Score may be a problem for some — but just think of the hiking possibilities on your doorstep.)
The architecture looks good. There are nice looking decks and a library and, last but not least, a reasonable looking price tag: $1,150,000 which translates as a not to be sniffed at $330/sq ft.

I don’t know who computes the “walk score”, nor how they are determined but I lived at 6226 Acacia, Oakland and while the walk score was poor, I walked to the Rockridge Market Hall, BART, dinner, library, and cleaneres regularly. It took 10 minutes downhill and 15 minutes uphill. Plus, a great workout.
The walk score wasn’t valid!
