I am not kidding. This is how I feel about 2980 Linden Avenue — and those are the precise words spoken to me by a man who saw the house at the same time I did and emerged onto the sidewalk veritably swooning. He was not alone.
This 2+/2.5 home with cottage is seriously gorgeous. Designed originally by architect Bernard Maybeck for a site on Regent Street, it was put on wheels and transported to its current location — on a quiet, leafy street in the heart of the Elmwood — in 1959.
There is so much to admire here: the wisteria-clad facade, the divine redwood paneling and beams, lovely windows and light, a beautiful library, a stunning new kitchen which is both very modern but totally in keeping with the house, a sumptuous garden with seating area and an espaliered fig tree — and a divine cottage that more than one visitor pointed out would be just fine to live in all on its own.
It is true that the soaring chimney looks precarious to say the least. And there may be other issues lurking beneath the surface. But it’s hard to do justice to this beautiful home either in words or images. You’ve just got to see it. It’s on for $1,095,000 but you can bet your bottom dollar it’s going to sell for more than that.
I’m in love again.

boo hoo – I want to see a larger image of the interior photo!
I haven’t seen the house in person, but don’t the bedrooms in the house leave much to be desired?
